How Coaches Can Bounce Back From Massive Failure (or more nicely put – setback)

Recovering from setbacks and "failures"

As a life, wellness or fitness coach, your clients expect you to show them how to be successful with their “well-being”. Of course, the last thing they’d like to get from you is the opposite. So when something doesn’t work out the way you or your client envisioned it to be, your psyche tends to get hit pretty hard.

While that may be true for most of us, the truth is, it doesn’t always have to be that way. Failure doesn’t have to be a terrible thing.
By the way, I know as coaches, we often say there is no such things as failure, just lessons, etc, etc, etc.  Let’s be honest.  Sometimes you totally bomb. It sucks.  Sure there is a lesson.  And, yes, often a failure, too. Acknowledge it. Learn from it. Move forward.

Allow me to share with you the things that you can do to bounce back from massive failure:

Have a clear purpose

It is essential that you and your client have a plan that clearly details your visions for the future. In most cases, you’ll have smaller goals that will define the path needed to reach success. If you failed at reaching any of these goals, simply refer back to the plan, make adjustments, and keep moving forward. It’s easier to bounce back when you have a road-map to get you back on track.

When you have a clear purpose and a plan to set things in motion, you will feel more confident in your ability to help your client, even after experiencing a failure. Without a clear purpose or vision, you and your client will become wanderers in the sea of life, and you are less likely to experience success.

Be optimistic and have faith

You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it again, but your attitude is everything. If you are optimistic about your work as a coach and your ability to help others reach their goals, then a failure won’t prevent you from ultimately reaching success.

The key to bouncing back from a massive failure is believing that you are part of a bigger plan and there is a bright future ahead.

Lean on your support system

No matter what kind of business coach you are, you probably have a few supportive people you can lean on after a massive failure. These people may be family members, close friends, or coworkers. These people believe in you, encourage you, and cheer you on. After a failure, nothing is better than letting these important people motivate you to bounce back and move on.

Get back in the game and try again

The best way to bounce back from massive failure is to get back in the game and try again. Just like the old saying goes, “When you fall off the horse, get right back on.” This is a powerful piece of advice that applies to more situations than horseback riding.

If you fail, learn from the mistake, then then try again. Don’t let a failure ruin you, or stop you from reaching your goal.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are several things you can do to bounce back from any near disaster. If you have recently suffered from a “set back” and you need help recovering and bouncing back, consider a coaching program with me here.
