Lessons Learned from the Fitness Industry

Wellness and fitness are very closely related. In the fitness industry, personal trainers have been refining the art of listening to their clients in order to get the client toward a certain fitness goal (although this can be limited to just fitness) and therefore provide the example for how continued improvements in the wellness coaching processes can be realized under the umbrella of behavior change.

Fitness professionals tend to ask themselves, “How can we get better results for our clients in the fitness industry?”

Career Development Paths for Health and Wellness Coaches

According to a survey by The National Center for Health Statistics, 36% of all consumers in the United States are using some form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), including wellness coaching services.

Breaking down some of the components of CAM would reveal more of the trends that consumers are revealing about their interests. This includes herbs and herbal medications, meditation, chiropractic care, yoga, massage, or diet-based therapies. All of these topics are also complementary to wellness coaching, for a wellness coach who has experience in these particular fields.

The Growth of Coaching and Corporate Wellness Coaching

How do you become a corporate health coach?In America, our lifestyle is sometimes determined by what we do for work because most weekdays we spend anywhere from 8 to 12 hours working.

In somewhat of a trend that we still see gaining momentum, some larger Fortune 500 companies have come to realize the value of maintaining the health of their employees in order to manage health care costs.

So it then follows, if wellness coaching is effective at implementing effective ways to change lifestyle behaviors, then the need is clearly seen in terms of how valuable a wellness coach can be toward impacting lifestyle behavior change within corporate environments.
