Nutrition Terms for Personal Fitness Chefs

April 26, 2019 by Liz Carter

Nutrition is about eating a healthy and balanced diet. Food and drink provide the energy and nutrients you and your clients need to be healthy. Understanding these nutrition terms may make it easier for you to help your clients make better food choices.

Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP): a compound that is an immediate energy source for muscular contraction and other energy-requiring processes in the body.

Adequate Intake (AI): a recommended intake value based on observed or experimentally determined approximations or estimates of nutrient intake by a group (or groups) of healthy people, that are assumed to be adequate—used when an RDA cannot be determined.

Amino Acids: building blocks of protein.

Antioxidants: molecules that can prevent or reduce the actions of free radicals. The best way to consume antioxidants is through the diet with a high intake of fruits and vegetables.

Body Composition: the proportion of fat and fat-free weight on the body.

Benefits of Antioxidants and Minerals for Your Clients

Benefits of Antioxidants and Minerals for Your ClientsAntioxidants

Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals (by-products) which can cause damage. Antioxidants act as “free radical scavengers” and prevent and repair the damage done by these free radicals.

Nutrition & Food Coaching Career Ideas (Have You Thought of These)

February 11, 2019 by Liz Carter

Nutrition-and-Food-Coaching-Career-Ideas

You have many options about how you will offer your nutrition-related services.

Some experts offer in-person, one-on-one coaching for their clients.
Others offer the same service online. Still, others offer some type of hybrid program where the clients receive a portion of their coaching in-person and other aspects online via email, Skype, Zoom video, text and/or PDF documents.

Some nutrition and food experts are combining their efforts and offering personal fitness chef services or creating a meal prep business in addition to nutrition coaching.

In most cases, people hire you for food or nutrition services for 2 reasons.  First, they know they need to improve their nutritional habits.  Second, they are short on time and want services that save them time.  They are willing to pay top dollar for anything that saves them time.

Of course, many coaches work with entire families.

Why is it a great idea to help an entire family?

1. You improve your efficiency by working with more clients at a single location.
2. They get better results due to a group effort.
3. You get more people to refer you new clients.
4. Your rate for a family of 4 is higher than a single person.
5. It makes a great case study (social media) story for your business.

You may be wondering how you would run a food/chef/meal prep business.

Student Success Stories

Becoming a Certified Life Strategies Coach at the Spencer Institute has been a great way for me to grow my coaching business. I really liked that I could work full time while learning life coaching on my own time schedule. Now I have coaching clients, and also attract more psychotherapy clients who choose me because I can offer coaching in addition to psychotherapy.
