Reaching Holistic Goals

A great coach distinguishes his or herself by how well they empower clients to begin to take responsibility and take steps towards their holistic goals. Since it helps to identify and untangle some of the barriers that have kept them stuck, we want to look at what our client sees as important.

Your First Meeting and Assessment

Holistic goals that require change for our client are not going to happen overnight but we can usually organize a complete strategy for clients within the first couple of sessions. With this in mind, be sure to inform clients that your first meeting with them is really a conversation – about the fit between yourself and the client. It is also a time for assessing if Holistic Coaching is right for them.

Holistic health or lifestyle is a neglected thing in conventional medicine, which focuses on signs and symptoms and treating disease conditions. However, a holistic approach to health and nutrition forms the basis of most traditional forms of medicine.

We all talk about balance, such as a work-life balance. This phrasing is a bit of a misguided metaphor that ignores the nuances and hard realities of our human experiences. To truly achieve balance, we are each forced to contend with the trade-offs. It’s almost as if our client feels that they have to give up one part of their life for another part to emerge… a better part. But we also know that we can’t have everything.

Holistic Coaching vs Therapy

Therapists and counselors are recognized as experts who focus largely on cleaning up or completing old issues.

Coaching takes a different approach, reaching into the magical realms of manifestation, designing one’s life, and forwarding action to realize one’s dreams.

Coaches act as partners, helping clients to recognize their own abilities to find the right direction and to address challenges along the way.

Coaches are works in progress. They are in-the-making models of what it means to learn fully, be fully effective, and be on the path to creating a more and more joyful and fulfilling life. Therapists only model living what they view as normal.
