To get an updated certificate showing lifetime status, contact Student Support. The digital certificate is free; a printed certificate is $25.
The Spencer Institute Executive Certification Board requires renewal so certified coaches stay current with coaching practices, research and industry trends.
What you need to renew
- 2.0 CEUs (20 hours) of approved continuing education in each two-year period. One CEU equals 10 hours of study or contact time.
- One set of CEUs covers all your certifications. If you hold several two-year certifications, 2.0 CEUs counts toward all of them.
- Approved courses: Spencer Institute and NESTA courses count. See the approved continuing education list.
- Outside courses: courses or workshops from other providers must be approved in advance. Submit a CEU petition.
- Renewal fee: $75 for each certificate you renew.
When to renew and late fees
Renew during the 90 days before your expiration date. For example, if your certificate expires on December 31, your renewal window opens October 2. There is no late fee if you renew by your expiration date. If you renew after it, one late fee applies per application:

Complete your CEUs
Finish 2.0 CEUs from approved courses, or get outside courses approved with a CEU petition.

Fill out the recertification submission form.

Pay your renewal fee
After you submit, you'll go to our secure payment site. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and most debit cards. Payments are processed by our parent company and appear as NESTA on your statement.

Frequently asked questions
Does my Spencer Institute certification expire?
Only six certifications renew every two years: Sleep Science Coach, Wellness Coach, Master Wellness Coach, Corporate Wellness Coach, Holistic Life Coach and Longevity Coach. The seven lifetime certifications never expire. If your certification isn't listed on this page, contact our support team for assistance.
My certificate shows an expiration date, but my certification is now lifetime. Is it still valid?
Yes. Your certification remains valid. To get an updated certificate showing lifetime status, contact Student Support. The digital certificate is free; a printed certificate is $25.
I hold more than one certification. Do I need 2.0 CEUs for each?
No. One set of 2.0 CEUs (20 hours) counts toward all of your Spencer Institute certifications. The $75 renewal fee applies to each certificate you renew.
Can I use NESTA courses for my CEUs?
Yes. Approved Spencer Institute and NESTA courses both count toward your 2.0 CEUs. Courses from other providers must be approved in advance through a CEU petition.
When is my renewal due, and what if I'm late?
Your renewal window opens 90 days before your expiration date, and there is no late fee if you renew by your expiration date. After that, one late fee applies per application: $25 if 1–30 days late, $50 if 31–60 days late and $95 if 61–90 days late. If it has been more than 90 days, contact Student Support right away. Extensions are considered case by case; otherwise, you must retake the exam.
I lost my certificate. How do I find my expiration date?
Search for your name in our graduate search tool. It shows your certificate status and the dates you need for the Renewal Checker.
I still hold the Wellness Coach certification. Can I renew it?
Yes. Although the Wellness Coach course is no longer sold, current Wellness Coach graduates can continue to renew every two years.
