How To Build A Coaching Website

Having a website as a coaching or training professional is a must, especially if you want to work with and help more clients. Even if you are on Tiktok, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, you should still invest some time in setting up a website. A website will add a level of legitimacy to your business and can be a terrific way to share your expertise and who you are.

What is the Best Website Platform?

Choosing a website builder also known as a website platform is akin to selecting the foundation when building your home. Everything that follows, the look, functionality, user experience, maintenance, adding on, and more will all be determined by this choice. The most important question when choosing the correct platform to build your website is what you plan to accomplish with your website.

It’s generally recommended to select a website builder with a content management system (CMS) as that can allow you more convenience in the control of your site. A CMS allows you to house your images, videos, PDFs, and more. This generally makes it much easier to edit and expand your website. WordPress is the world’s leading CMS platform. Roughly, 40% of all websites are powered by WordPress. It contains plugin architecture and a template system, so you can customize any website to fit your business, blog, portfolio, or online store. Something to keep in mind is that while WordPress is an open-source project, meaning it’s free to use, you will be responsible for finding a web hosting provider, which is an additional expense.

If you like all-in-one solutions, you might want to consider a reputable website builder such as Squarespace or Wix. These platforms offer complete website designs out of the box, which you can customize with a drag-and-drop tool. You won’t need to outsource hosting to another company, but you’ll have less flexibility with design. The costs associated with hosted website builders depend on the plan you choose. For example, if you opt for the Squarespace Business package, it will cost you $23 per month.

How Do You Pick a Website Domaine Name

Your domain name should ideally align with your business name. If you’re unsure of which name you should choose, there are several online domaine name generators that can provide you with some inspiration. Some things to take into account when deciding on your website address:

  • Make sure it’s easy to spell
  • Keep it as short as possible
  • Include keywords relevant to your business

If you want a successful business, there are a few things you have to keep in mind, regardless of your industry. These days, one of these things is a great website.

Your Elevator Pitch

Right off the bat, when people land on your site, you want them to understand who you are, what you do, and why. On your home page or “about” page, you should include a summary—no more than two to three paragraphs long—laying out the most important things about you. Imagine potential clients coming to your site and only reading this one section. What would you want them to take away? List any relevant coaching experience and qualifications first. Keep in mind that your most relevant experience may not be direct employment history, especially if coaching is your first career. If your volunteer work is more relevant to the coaching industry, you may consider including that information aswell.

Plugins and Extensions

Plugins (in WordPress) and extensions (in Squarespace and other page builders) can add new features to your website. Without these tools, you may struggle to get the most out of your small business site. You can browse Squarespace extensions from its extensive library. With WordPress, you’ll have access to almost 60,000 plugins. With so many options available, it might be tempting to install as many plugins or extensions as you can. However, doing so could slow down your site and affect its performance. When choosing plugins or extensions, you will want to opt for tools with high ratings and regular updates, and that address the following areas:

Examples & Testimonials of Your Best Work

Testimonials from people you’ve worked with in the past can be a great way to make you look even more impressive, especially if they’re from well-respected professionals in the field. You can use quotes from people you’ve worked with before to show off soft skills that would be hard to demonstrate, to let someone else sing your praises so you don’t have to or to simply further prove your worth. Potential clients will look for reviews from your previous clients. Your current clients have worked long enough in the gym with you and they know your skill set and expertise well. Also whenever you work with a new client, you should ask them to leave you a review. You can get photos, written stories or video testimonials.  More is always better.

Professional Visuals and Branding

It’s important to remember that your site shouldn’t just be pages full of text. Instead, find ways to visualize yourself and your accomplishments. Maybe it’s creating a simple logo that represents you and what you do. Maybe it’s including a professional photo of yourself. Maybe it’s going as far as to create icons or an infographic representing your accomplishments. Videos are very powerful. We live in a very visual society and having footage of testimonials or action shots of what you have to offer can help potential clients imagine what’s like to work with you. Some small businesses underestimate the importance of branding. From your domain name to the colors you choose, everything that represents your business should be cohesive. This helps people identify and remember you. This is what you want if you want a successful business.

Show Your Human Side

Coaching or training needs to provide a personal and emotional connection. Something that a lot of successful people do is share something personal to them within the first session. This tactic shows the client that they have a life too and have a degree of empathy with what they are trying to achieve. While facts and business are important, storytelling provokes engagement and advocacy.

An Active Blog

Content creation is VITAL in the coaching space. You need a way to educate people, give them wins, and show your skills. By creating content, you are creating relationships with your potential clients before they ever reach out to work with you or buy from you. Writing a blog remains one of the most effective ways to drive traffic to your training or coaching website, define your personal brand, and help prospective clients get to know you as a thought leader in the industry.

Links to Your Social Media

Your site shouldn’t replace your social media presence, but it’s a great way to bring them all together and make them easier for people to find. Link to author pages on different websites you contribute to, or sites you’ve helped build. Link to places you’re quoted as an expert. Whatever it is, your personal site is a great way to bring your scattered web presence together. And if you haven’t yet, you NEED to use social media for your business.  It needs to be effective.

Here are some tricks to make your social media effects more effective:

  1. Stop using blah photos.  If they are not good, don’t use them.
  2. Take a moment to optimize images.  This does mean you look like a different person after using 12 filters.  Adjust contrast and brightness.  Crop a little if needed.
  3. Be in an interesting location when you do your videos.
  4. Walk and talk when possible because it catches people’s attention.
  5. Have your posts tell an ongoing brand story.
  6. Smile more than you think is needed.
  7. Be consistent with your posting schedule.
  8. Speak directly to your target market in your posts and ads.  Don’t be general.
  9. Be consistent with your brand colors and messaging.
  10. Be in the service of others, not yourself
