How to Achieve Your Goals and Get the Results You Want

A goal is a personal objective. Something you want to achieve within a specific period of time. Successful people are goal-oriented. They know exactly what they want they are working toward the achievement of their goals every single day. They tend to accomplish far more than the average person in all aspects of life.

How to Start Setting Goals

Most people know in general what they want out of life. But being generalized is not enough in order to achieve great results that you want. If you know you want to be a professional speaker, the real positive shift happens towards major results when you get specific about your message and the audience you want to speak to.  Overall goals are great, but in order for you to achieve great success, it’s important to know your lane which then you’ll feel confident to really go after it.

Dream big, but start with a goal of reaching one realistic step that will take you closer. Setting an actual goal should be small and tangible. Once you hit the first one, you can set another goal that brings you further down the path to your dream. The more precise and clear your goals are the easier it will be to know when they are complete. Just like in business, objectives should be specific and measurable. Ensure they are achievable and within the realms of reality otherwise you will run the risk of them becoming demotivating.

When setting those large goals, be sure to break those large goals into reasonable, smaller goals so you can feel motivated to take those on and achieve them. Small accomplishments lead to big achievements.

If your dream is to save money for a home in the long term, then your first goal could be to save $1,000 in the next three months. If your dream is to feel healthier, decide what that means for you. Maybe it means eating 2 servings of vegetables every day for the next month or going on a walk 5 times per week.

Create Goals That Are in Line with Your Values

Once you’ve figured out what’s most important to you, it’s time to create goals that are in line with those things. Setting goals that align with your personal values increases the chances of you actually achieving them.

The more your goals align with your values, the more motivated you’ll be to pursue them.

On the other hand, if your goals run counter to your value, you’ll create internal conflict that will hinder you from getting where you want to be. And even if you achieve them, you won’t find true fulfillment and satisfaction in your achievements. You’ll end up feeling conflicted and remorseful.

When you set goals that flow out of your values, you’re able to move away from things that hold you back in life and concentrate more on things that bring value and a sense of accomplishment.

Measuring The Steps You Take

It’s very important as you are going for your goals to measure your progress along the way. You need to understand what is not working and make the necessary adjustments. And it’s also important to monitor the positive progress and push yourself toward bigger and better results.

Vague goals almost never work. Why? Because you don’t have clarity on the outcome you’re trying to achieve and what you need to do to hit your goals. Setting a measurable goal means specifying an exact quantity within your goals. Focus on using numbers rather than generalized phrases like “a lot,” many,” and “enough.”

By setting measurable goals, you can monitor your progress at any particular time and compare your progress against the end goal.  You can identify and celebrate what you’ve achieved and also identify areas where you might need to readjust your approach. Knowing exactly how much progress you’ve made is a powerful source of confidence that keeps you moving towards your goal.

Be Truly Committed

In order to achieve the results that you want, you can’t be halfway committed or get easily distracted when challenges come your way. You have to have a no-excuses approach and let nothing get in your way to making things happen for you.

There will be days when you will feel unmotivated and might not do anything that day that will help you get closer to your goal, but don’t let that discourage you! See every day as a fresh new start. Just because yesterday you weren’t able to stay focused or be productive, it doesn’t mean that today can’t be different. Every day is a new opportunity to keep pursuing your goals, so never give up!

One of the most important pieces of achieving the success you want is that you absolutely have to believe in yourself. Going for your goals is going to be challenging. You don’t have time to be doubting yourself too long and if you want others to believe in you, you have to show you believe in yourself. Invest in yourself to get confidence in yourself.

Have The Right Support and Resources

Alone you can do a lot but with the right support system and resources, anything is possible.  When going for your goals, there are going to be challenges that come your way. It’s so important to have those tools and resources and support systems to help you immediately when you need it.
